Cultural Arts Series
The Cultural Arts Series has become an integral part of the life and identity of St. John’s. For over fifteen years, St. John’s has been presenting cultural arts events to parishioners and the Long Island community featuring worldclass artists in a wide variety of classical and contemporary concerts, plays and dramatic readings. The music series, September through May, has welcomed groups such as 21 Chamberosity, Bach & Beyond, Bronx Opera and Gala Opera International and featured such classical artists as guitarist Francisco Roldãn, pianists Alexander Wu, Christine Doré, Lynn Baker and Benton Hess and vocalists Laure Meloy, Suzanne Donald, Donita Volkwijn, Jenufa Gleich, Mark Lundberg, Arnold Rawls, Marc Deaton and Leslie Valentine.

In 2007, the series expanded to summer outdoor concerts in the Garden of Blessings, free to the public, featuring the Greg Baldwin Jazz Band, Cool Fish, The Lonesome Moonlight String Band and Ecuadorian songstress Melania Maldonado. In another 2007 development, St. John’s hosted the first Long Island Playwright’s Festival and began a St. John’s Readers Theatre with a performance of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”. Building on its prior presentation of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”, these theatrical events are expected to become a regular feature of the series.
