How do I become a member of St. John’s?

What if I am not baptized?
If you are not baptized and wish to be baptized and become a member of St. John’s, please call the church office at 631-427-1752 and make an appointment with the Rector to explore the Baptismal preparation.
What if I have been baptized in another denomination?
If you have been baptized in any other Christian denomination we can recognize you as a baptized member. Let us know the denomination and date of your baptism. In this case, The Book of Common Prayer makes clear that the normal expectation is confirmed membership ( BCP, p. 412). We encourage you to consider Confirmation.
What do I need to do to be a confirmed Episcopalian?
Information is available on Confirmation process in this website. Or call the church office at 631-427-1752 for details and application. If you choose to be confirmed there are some added benefits. You will be able to vote in our annual parish elections, run for a position on the Vestry, or serve as a Diocesan Convention delegate. Please know that if this in not a convenient time for you to take the classes, or if you feel that you are not ready for this leap of faith, you can still be on the rolls as a baptized member.
What if I used to be a member of another Episcopal Church?
If you are already baptized or confirmed Episcopalian, we can request your Letter of Membership to be transferred from your last Episcopal church. This letter will transfer your membership to St. John’s. Please call the church office at 631-427-1752.
What if I have been baptized and confirmed in another denomination?
If you have been confirmed in another denomination such as the Roman Catholic, the Lutheran or the Orthodox Church, we encourage you to consider Reception into the Episcopal Church. Please call the church office and ask to be enrolled in the New Members Class Connections Workshop, our program for adult confirmation. This series of classes is an examination of the faith and worship of Anglicanism. These classes are fun, informative, and a great way to meet new and interesting people.
What is the point of being an active member of St. John’s?
While the church ministers to anyone in crisis, active members enjoy the fullness of all that St. John’s has to offer. Active members are regular in worship and prayer, and faithful in giving and working for God’s mission in this community. Everyone, regardless of membership status is encouraged to get involved.
